Oil Cracked to $89. Small Caps Led. The Record Is 0.2% Away.
Monday it was falling yields lifting chips. Tuesday it was collapsing oil lifting everything else. The rally changed engines, and the S&P is at the door of a record.
Wednesday, September 23. WTI is under $90, the Russell is leading, and the S&P sits 0.2% from its all-time high. Here is what carries it, and what cuts it.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25TH
Your deadline to get positioned for Elon’s NEXT MOVE
Dear reader,
I’ve uncovered an FCC filing from Elon Musk that lays out his NEXT MOVE, one he’s working hard to keep quiet.
What’s buried in this filing could be bigger than PayPal, Tesla, and SpaceX combined.
The BIGGEST thing he’s ever attempted, and the BIGGEST opportunity he’s ever handed the people paying attention.
This won’t stay quiet for long.
Everything I’m looking at points to one date: September 25th.
After that, the window to position yourself early on this opportunity could be gone forever.
I lay it all out in a FREE presentation.

Key Idea
The rally changed engines on Tuesday. Monday it was falling yields lifting chips. Tuesday it was collapsing oil lifting almost everything else. WTI crude fell to $89.42. Down more than 3%. Small caps led the market, not mega-cap tech. And the S&P 500 closed within 0.2% of its all-time high. The Nasdaq set another record. One good session now stands between this market and a new peak. Two weeks ago it was the worst week since March.
The Rally Broadened
For months this was a two-stock market. Tuesday it widened.
The Russell 2000, the index of small U.S. companies, rose 0.68% and led the tape. That is the group that lives or dies on borrowing costs. The Nasdaq added 0.45% to another record. The S&P 500 finished flat, but it is now about 0.2% from its all-time high. The Dow slipped 0.36% as banks lagged. By the close, the Russell was the best board on the screen.
Underneath it, oil kept cracking. WTI settled at $89.42, down from above $100 on Friday. Brent slipped under $98. The driver was diplomacy: talk of revived U.S.-Iran negotiations pulled the war premium out of crude. The 10-year yield held near 4.95%.
We told you Tuesday the broadening would show up first in small caps. Tuesday the Russell led the market.

Personal Flight

The FAA Just Brought Flying Cars Closer to Reality
The United States has had a streamlined certification path for light-sport aircraft since 2004. The MOSAIC rule now expands that framework to new categories, including electric powered-lift aircraft.
Doroni plans to pursue H1-X certification under that framework. The two-seat personal eVTOL is designed to charge like an EV and fit inside a two-car garage.
Doroni is offering shares at $3.30 in its current Regulation A round. For a limited time, investors can receive up to 20% bonus shares.

Why A Wider Rally Matters
A rally led by two names is fragile. A rally where small caps and cyclicals join is not. That is the difference between Tuesday and most of this year.
Here is the mechanism. When oil falls, every household and every trucking, airline, and retail company keeps more cash. Carnival rose 4%. American Airlines rose more than 2%. Cheaper fuel is a tax cut nobody had to legislate. And your next tank of gas gets cheaper too.
So what. Falling oil does two jobs at once. It lifts the companies that burn fuel, and it cools the inflation number the Fed is fighting. That is why stocks and bonds both caught a bid. For once, the good news was good for everyone.
But notice what is doing the lifting. Not earnings. Macro relief.

The Two-Engine Problem
Here is the asymmetry. This rally now runs on two engines, and both are macro, not fundamental. Engine one is the 10-year at 4.95%. Engine two is oil at $89. Falling yields lift the expensive growth names. Falling oil lifts everyone else and cools inflation. That is a powerful combination while it lasts. But one report can stall both at the same time. PCE lands September 30. That is the inflation gauge the Fed watches most. A hot print sends yields back up and reminds traders the Fed is not done, and a surprise on oil supply can snap crude higher just as fast. Two engines are better than one. Two engines that share one fuel line are not.
Three Ways Wednesday Goes
Base
Oil stays soft and the S&P nudges to a fresh record. The broadening holds: small caps (IWM), industrials (XLI), and cyclicals lead while the Nasdaq (QQQ) grinds higher. Keep the chip winners you own, Nvidia (NVDA) and AMD, but add the names that gain from cheaper fuel: airlines (JETS) and consumer discretionary (XLY). Watch the S&P record line as the level that either breaks or rejects.
Upside
Crude keeps sliding and the S&P clears its high with room. A close in blue sky pulls sidelined cash off the bench, and the laggards run hardest: regional banks (KRE), homebuilders (XHB), and small caps (IWM). This is the broad, durable leg bulls have wanted all year. If you are underweight anything but mega-cap tech, this is the tape that fixes it.
Risk
Oil finds a floor or PCE runs hot on September 30, and both engines cut out at once. This is the specific danger of a macro-driven rally: the same two levers reverse together. Expect small caps and cyclicals, the Tuesday leaders, to give back most, a 3% to 5% pullback in the Russell 2000. Do not chase the broadening on day three. Let it prove itself, and keep a cash cushion earning near 5%.
Our View
On Tuesday we said the broadening would show up in small caps before anywhere else. It did, and the Russell led the market. Now the new read. A rally that widens is a rally that lasts longer, so do not fight this tape. But be honest about why it is working. Cheaper oil and steady yields are carrying it, not a single earnings beat. That makes the next two macro prints the whole ballgame. Consumer sentiment lands Friday at 10 AM. PCE lands September 30. Between here and there, add the cyclicals that cheaper fuel rewards and trim nothing that is working. Just keep the powder dry that lets a hot PCE be someone else’s problem, not yours. Wednesday, watch oil and the S&P record line together.
